King Charlie … the friggin goat!

This was passed on to me this morning by one of the blokes at work. It’s about the Puck Fair and the crowning of a goat as King of Ireland. Nice tradition one might say but very simply if you want to look like fucking eejits what better way is there to do it than to crown a goat king then get it publicised internationally in a pile of languages (I received it in Finnish) so everyone can laugh at you.

Greece plane crash

No doubt you’ve seen this by now. A short time ago a plane crashed in Greece, just north of Athens, with 121 people on board. More than likely everyone on board had died, I can’t imagine anyone could have survived. Originally there were a few theories being thrown around from terrorism to failure of the ventilation systems, though it appears that a sudden drop in cabin pressure probably caused the pilots to lose consciousness. Two F-16′s, who were scrambled after the plane lost contact with the control tower, reported that the pilot wasn’t to be seen and the co-pilot was slumped over his seat. One passenger sent a text message to his cousin simply saying “Farewell cousin we’re freezing,”. Hopefully more news soon.

End of an era

Hey, if UI can use it so can I ! In this case the era at an end is my wireless mouse era. The left click button on my mouse has been driving me nuts, it hasn’t been working right at all recently. It made it impossible to do any modelling and even using the browser scroll bar was a problem. Last night it drove me over the edge so this morning I went shopping for a new mouse but unfortunatly I couldn’t get my hands on another wireless so I had to go wired … I hate wired mouses, they are so restricted, the cable is always getting in the bloody way. Cunts! as Twenty would say.
Ignore me, I just needed a good whinge.

Protestants show opposition to Ballymena church attacks

A very decent gesture by many of the Protestants in Ballymena showing support for the local R.Catholics by holding a vigil outside Our Lady’s Church tonight. The church has been attacked a number of times in the past month by being paint bombed and daubed with sectarian graffiti. Many Presbyterians from a nearby church have already made efforts to clean up the grafitti, and tonights vigil is another good example of some of the decent people in NI trying to carve out a peaceful future together. Well done to all involved I say.

Safe and Legal in Ireland

The issue of abortion is in the news [registration cheat] today. George explains further on Slugger where quite a heavy discussion is ongoing. I’m not brave enough to get involved just yet, maybe later.

Discovery makes it home

Old news now, I had no time to post yesterday, great to see that the Discovery shuttle has made it home safely. No doubt there were serious concerns following the quick fix they had to do before starting their return trip.
More space news, a new Mars probe was due for launch but has been delayed slightly for safety reasons. It should take off tomorrow, arriving at Mars in March of next year.

UI hangs up his boots

One of my favourite daily blog reads has decided to call it a day. As Young Irelander himself says, it’s the “end of an era”. I don’t know what prompted this (legal? work?) bit I hope he reconsiders and gets back to posting soon.
