No longer a dot ie virgin

Just bought my first .ie today. They wouldn’t let me have inailedbbbaskin.ie so I went for emcguinness.ie instead. Not very exciting I know but it will have to do. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it, perhaps a portfolio!

In other news I have more or less given up on Facebook, all those feckin vampires, rockstar cars, daily babes, flirt, blackjack, iq tests invitations .. I just don’t see the point. Instead I’ve moved on to LinkedIn … it’s nice and peaceful and quiet over there.

  1. I bought a .com domain ages ago; I use it for various e-mail accounts, and photo websites for the kids. It’s also handy if I need to make files available via FTP for someone. For the domain name, I chose the name of a beloved dog of mine, who has since passed away.

I have had no troubles at Facebook, though I confess I’m still a bit puzzled about what folks see in it (as well as MySpace, Bebo, etc.). The notion of “social networking” in my generation meant visiting the local. ;-)

  2. When I first bought a .com I didnt know what to do with it but like yourself found it very handy for ftp and file storage etc.

Thats more my type of networking also, a few jars in the local. At least you know who you’re really talking to there :)

  3. I’d really like to have a personal website, but I’m not able to work with html, java and so on, so I’d have to find something very easy to work with…
Of course I won’t call it with my name :-)

  4. HMTL is very easy Antonio, there’s really only about 20-30 tags you need to learn and maybe some CSS for styling.
Java is a programming language and is quite difficult, you wouldn’t need this for a webpage anyway.
Maybe you mean javascript which is very different than java, you wouldn’t need this either but you could get free scripts off the web.

  5. Well, Maca, as you can see I’m very off road about these things. I mixed up java with javascript.
Anyway I wanto to make something simple, maybe with some basic html and some css I could get something good enough.

  6. It’s easy to start, just get a simple text editor … notepad on windows is fine, or something more advanced like HTML-Kit. Then get some basic tutorials like:

    http://www.w3schools.com/html/
    http://www.echoecho.com/html.htm
    http://werbach.com/barebones/

then just start playing with it and soon you’ll get the hang of it.

p.s. a LOT of people get java confused with javascript

  7. Thanks, Maca! Those links may come in help!

  8. Anytime!! Need any further links you know where to come :)
