Personal .ie domains

With my head buried in the sand these past few months I totally missed the change in .ie registration rules … as of 31st October 2007 you can now register personal .ie domain names! Certain restrictions apply of course but it’s a welcome and long overdue rule change.

For cheapest registration prices, that i found so far, head on over to LetsHost.ie, Register365.com or Blacknight.ie.

  1. Are you saying that until now you couldn’t register your own personal website with an .ie domain?
That’s weird… what was the reason?
The less we pay is something around 30-40 euros/year, but some provider gives us a free space with personal name with an .it domain

  2. Sorry for slow reply…
Yeah, before this individuals couldn’t register .ie domains. I don’t know what the reason was really, it was a bit stupid.
The price here varies from €30 to about €160!!! .ie was always expensive but now there’s a few registrars offering them for quire reasonable prices. I’m still trying to decide if I will get one or not, the choices are limited (has to be your name)

  3. Very limited options indeed… so you cant’ have two different personal websites because you only have one name?
    :-)

  4. good point, never thought of that :)

  5. You can always ask someone else in your family who is not interested in the web to lend their names for you ;-)

  6. I’ll just use my kids names :)
