An Daingean … arís

The Dingle/Daingean issues is in the news again. Kerry Co. Council have announced details of a postal vote to be carried out in October on whether or not they want the bilingual name Dingle/Daingean Ui Chuis instead of An Daingean. Not that it’ll make much difference anyway as Ó’Cuiv is adamant that the decision he made is final. Compromise would be better here and having a bilingual name like proposed would be the best option in my opinion. Nothing wrong with a bit of common sense and compromise now and again.

  1. I know it’s not my own business as I’m not Irish nor English, but I don’t see too much trouble in having an Irish names for a town, even if this town is Dingle.
Tourists will visit it all the same, because they don’t go there for the name but for the place itself and in a few years everybody will learn An Daingean as the new name for this place.

  2. You’re right, it’s not your business!! .. just kidding ! :)

I don’t see any trouble either but obviously the locals are attached to the English name for some reason.
