Only 3 days to go…

Gaelic Games on Playstation 2It’s the 8th of November, an ya know what that means doncha? That’s right, in 3 days time it’ll be the leventh of November. An ya know what that means doncha? That’s right, Gaelic Games Football will be released on Playstation 2. An ya know what that means doncha? That’s right, for the rest of November and probably most of December I won’t be gehhin a lohha sleep. As one Sluggerette fecker remarked, tis the only way Longford will ever win the All-Ireland! He’s right, though i’ll make sure his county get a right lambashtin on me way to victory! An Longfort abú!!

Btw, GGF is based on an Aussie Rules game produced by the same company, IR Gurus, and so i’m not sure we can expect too much from GGF.

Update: It’s the 10th of November, an ya know what that means doncha?
Update 2: I found some screenshots.

  1. Btw, GGF is based on an Aussie Rules game produced by the same company

It should have some good punch-ups in it then :-)

  2. Haven’t bought a game in a while. I might just buy this for the laugh.

  3. interesting. I heard about this never actually thought it was anything but a rumor

  4. UI, go on, it has to be done. I’ll probably post a review when I get the game so you could wait till then just in case it’s shite.

Simon, well development took so long on the game, they have been talking about it for at least 2 years, that I thought it would never happen. But it’s here. 2 days to go!

  5. Let us know how realistic it is, ie if the teams are level in or around 70 minutes, does the ref blow up for full time?

  6. I would definately be interested in hearing your thoughts on the game play etc Maca. The boy loves football games and if you’re into soccer pro evoloution 5 is according to him the best game ever!

  7. LOL JL!

I’ll post my thoughts Fi, as soon as I have a chance to give the game a good run through. Thanks for the tip, though i’m a FIFA Soccer (EA) man myself. :)

  8. Initial reports aren’t great Maca. Just going by a discussion board where a few people have claimed to play it.

  9. PS, I’m not expecting too much anyway, still nice to see one of our games on PS2. Twould be nice if a good company like EA Sports made a game, perhaps they could do “EA Hurling Championship 2006″? :)

  10. Found this:
“Sorry to have to say this but this game is useless. Shooting is horrible and i can’t change the players names. who is Harris Hocta?”

p.s. PS. we’ll be relying on you first first feedback on the game ..!

  11. I’ve just read that you can put your face into the game using EyeToy. That’s pretty cool.

  12. Just got a note from Sendit, my copy of GGF has been shipped !!

It’s a cool feature alright UI, not sure if i want to be looking at my ugly mug staggering round the field though. :)

  13. I’m very disappointed with the new GAA playstation game. It’s bad enough that the players names haven’t been included but when you can’t even save the changes you make to the squads it’s doubly frustrating. The commentary by Micheál O’ Muirchearthaigh sounds very shoddy to say the least when you compare it to the commentary in FIFA 06. The game itself looks more like Aussie rules than normal GAA football. There’s no exciting extras included like say the Manager Mode in FIFA. All in all ‘Gaelic Games: Football is ultimately summed up by the ethos of the GAA itself – amateur.

  14. I’m actually glad the players names havent been included, since I looked at a copy in Game the other day and noticed the GPA are not involved.

I take maca’s point that it is good to see the game on the market, and I suppose we have to all remember how primitive the first versions of games in all the other sports were before they involved.

Maybe after a while someone like EA will take it on and then we can all be raving over GGF2010.

  15. I hope we don’t have to wait until 2010 JL :)

  16. I have found that with some practice it is a really enjoyable game, especailly when play with friends (not just against the computer)

It is difficult at first and the manual is poor but stick with it and you’ll slowly become addicted.

Some people have been pretty harsh, I think, with their comments. It’s not fair to compare it tho the FIFA of now or PES. Try and take it in context. I think we should view it as a first attempt and as they go this is pretty decent.

I agree the IRgurus (taking their AFL games into account) were not the best the best choice but with the right developers and software house this could be an awsome game so don’t let it die before it’s begun.

As it is I’m enjoying it and hoping it will get a big enought market to encourage an improved sequel. There is even talk of a hurling version.

  17. Hi Padraig
Thanks for the comments, it’s good to get another view. I’m still waiting for my copy, it’s in the post.

You’re right there, it shouldn’t really be compared to PES or FIFA, they have had years to develop games and have obviously hugh resources behind them. I’ve been thinking about this in the past week, I have FIFA 2003 at home, this is probably EA’s 6th or 7th soccer game yet there are still some big problems with the gameplay so for a first game I wouldn’t be expecting too much from GGF. It would be nice though if a bigger comany took it over and perhaps got some Irish guys to work on it.

    Bring on the hurling!
