Tech & mobile news

Two quick tech stories …
Via Slashdot, Michael Thomas, owner of Colossal Storage, says he’s the first person to solve non-contact optical spintronics (huh?) which should ultimately result in the creation of super capacity hard drives of approx. 1.2 petabytes, which is … I dunno … like a brazilian times bigger than anything available now. On the market in 5 years? Slashdot readers aren’t so convinced.

The big news at 3GSM in Barcelona this week seems to be the huge investment companies are putting into bringing TV to mobile phones! This is something I don’t understand, are people really going to pay a nice monthly fee to squint at a 2″ screen? Not me. The ideal mobile for me can make calls (funnily enough), has a good calendar, a camera, can play MP3′s (3-5Gb storage would be nice) and can read/send emails and surf the web. For anything else I have a laptop.

  1. I don’t even like those personal screens you get in long haul aircraft. Why anyone thinks I’d want to watch a mobile phone is beyond me.

  2. Anyway, if I had to focus on a small screen when i’m on a train or buss i’d get dizzy and throw up :)
