Halonen re-elected

The second round of the Finnish Presidential Election was today and Tarja Halonen was re-elected by a tiny margin. She claimed just 51.8% of the votes beating off Conservative candidate Sauli Niinisto. Halonen would be my choice too, I think she’s a better ambassador for Finland than “neo-liberal hawk” Niinisto.
Thankfully this candidate, Timo Soini, went out in the first round; dodgy policies and a Millwall fan … unacceptable!

  1. Jaysus…Who knew that Tarja Halonen is FInnish for Melanie Griffith’s mam?Fair play to her though. Then again I would have voted for anyone running against a “hawk” neo-liberal or otherwise….whatever the fuck that is!

  2. As for Soini being a Millwall fan….Well…Someone HAS to be I suppose. What really irks me is that he was a Coporal.

  3. I’ve no idea what a hawk (neo-liberal or otherwise) is either, I just threw that in to pretend I knew something about politics. :)

  4. “Election Marks Ideological Split”? You must be kidding – Finnish politics is a barely-felt pushing match for the middle-ground. Even their extremists are so fucking REASONABLE!
