‘ludicrous’ plan to send Irish troops to New Orleans

I think John O’Shea is spot on here when he called plans to send 30 Irish troops to help with the New Orleans aid effort as ‘ludicrous’.
I mean, they have massive resources available, they have about 14 navy ships in the Katrina task force with more than enough helicopters & personnel to deal with the crisis, which aren’t even been used to full capacity so to send a mere 30 troops to help out is plain nonsense.
Even our meagre 1 million Eur donation is pathetic, as if a mere 1 million will make any difference to a country whose defence budget is about 1 billion per day.
Cop on Irish government, send your condolences, maybe visit the US to show your support but enough of the pathetic little gestures.

  1. We didn’t send money, just medicines, medical equipments, food, water and oil products.
What touches me is that Sri Lanka, still in the wake of the tsunami, sent $25,000 to USA.
This little amount of money is more worth than 500 million dollars given by Kuwait.

  2. Good point about Sri Lanka, it’s a great genture from them since they don’t have much themselves.

It’s out own silly gestures I have a problem with.
