Talent runs in the family

My son (5) appears to have inherited my supreme talent for telling jokes. He came home from day-care the other day with a joke which he would only tell in Finnish. The joke auf Englisch:

A fish walks into a shop and asks the man “Can I have some Light Milk” (what the Finns call low-fat)
The man says “Do you want a bag”
The fish says “No, it’s Light Milk” [badda boom!]
“Oh Damn!”
“I am Superman”

Now, where the “Oh damn. I am Superman” bit comes from I have no idea, and I have serious doubts over the species of the customer but at least he got the punch line near the end, I usually tell the punch line first (that supreme talent I was telling you about). Kids, ha!

  1. Took me a while to get that one!

I don’t know if I actually had a sense of humour when I was 5. Some would say I still don’t.:)

  2. I think at that age kids don’t understand jokes, but they feed off the responses. If they get a good response then repeat the joke … over and over and over and over …

  3. I don’t think I got that one at all… But still I recognise that feeling, I’ve got four 5-year olds and they tell the strangest ‘jokes’ (and I use the term loosely!). Luckily their elder brother (7) has developed a fine sense of humour, so there is hope. It seems.

Nice blog, btw! I’ll be stopping by later as well :)

  4. Hi Scholiast, FOUR 5-yr olds? Cripes, you’ve a tough job on your hands! I thought 1 was hard work! :)
    And welcome to the site!
