Hi Maca,
sorry for disappearing from your blog, I noticed there were no updates lately.
Anyway, WinRar is pretty good to me, though is not widely used so that any file you compress with it need the next user to have WinRar himself in order open it and this can be a weak point.
And, as far as I remember, it doesn’t need registration. I could be wrong, though…

I agree, 7Zip, as good as it is, is lacking in certain areas. The UI isn’t great either. Still my first choice these days though.

WinZip/WinRAR’s nag screens worked on me. They annoyed me so much I went to download.com and searched for a free alternative. Enter 7zip.

I’ve been using 7zip for ages. It’s great for nerds, but AFAIK (I haven’t tried futtering too much with it) it lacks the intuitive double-click-to-open that Winzip/WinRAR employ.

Still, the price is right.

Antonio, never tried Winrar. 7-zip fulfils all my needs. Winrar any good?

Kav, no probs! I’m always fairly quick to download software updates, which is why I got caught with winzip.

Cheers for the tip. I tend to just automatically download all Windows updates, so I’ll avoid this one for a while.
