I removed a few extensions yesterday which I had just installed. It (along with a good sweep of my PC) seemed to work but at the moment it’s actually worse! It’s now 160432K, i’ve just 2 tabs open.

He talks about how much memory FF uses, it appears that FF keeps any images from any tab that are open in memory as uncompressed images. He did some experiments where he recompile FF to either use compressed images and to remove from memory cache and it reduced memory usage by 50% or so ...
